Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
