Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began playing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
