Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the planet by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his goal of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
