Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker contender on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about the game. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
