Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the globe by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
