Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
