Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
