Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse feedback from others kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
