Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
