Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.
Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a learning period and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
