Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
