Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.

He began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
