Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning experience and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated a number of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Even though Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
