Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he could about the game. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning money games on a regular basis.
