Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from others kill his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning was not a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil states that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
