Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his dream of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.

Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every day and is incredibly abashed about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single session of poker and always strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
