Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn everything he could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil started competing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is very abashed about his success. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
