Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
