Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he possibly could about poker. He would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning money games on a regular basis.
