Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the detrimental feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
