Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker contender on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an eternal love for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Even though Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a normal basis.
