Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover everything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the adverse feedback from other people destroy his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He started competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal passion for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
