Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He started playing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
