Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover anything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker competitors in the world.
Phil began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
