Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
