Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to learn everything he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative comments from other people kill his dream of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he defeated a number of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each game of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
